Fabien Galthie announces France squad to take on the All Blacks

France head coach Fabien Galthie has named his 37-man squad that will take on the All Blacks next month in New Zealand.

The squad is comprised of players who either did not feature or had their minutes limited during this year’s Guinness Six Nations due to a French policy.

In the absence of the injured Antoine Dupont and the rested Gregory Alldritt, Racing 92 centre Gael Fickou will captain the squad.

With the Top 14 final to be played on Saturday between Toulouse and Bordeaux-Begles, Galthie will be allowed to extend his squad to 42 players. However, the players selected from the finalists must not have played excessively in the 2024/25 season.

I have no delision. I feel you certainly do. RMs successes have all been below Test level. Plenty of people win SR titles without ever being good enough to be All Blacks so I’m unaware what winning or losing a domestic title has to do with being a great test player. I rate Nonu and Smith as our best centre combo ever yet neither won a SR title and there are plenty of Crusadets who have won multiple titles without ever being ABs.

Sour but your post does not reflect anything about rugby that I believe. Intact BB not being part of the Blues win is the perfect example of my belief that winning titles doesn’t make you an AB and certainly not a great one. Do you believe Plummer is a better 10 than BB? I certainly don’t.

Your statements around logic just don’t make sense.

No defending team will give up easy metres in that scenario. Why would you set Freeman off the line and make that tackle say 10-15m out from your own line? It doesn’t make any sense.

Nice phrase ‘soft press’ but what you really mean to say is Sione T does neither one thing nor the other. He doesn’t fire out upfield and he does not call an extra forward across so he can push out on to Isgro just outside Albornoz.

So what you get in the posts view at 12:27 is a classic 3 on 2. The first forward across is struggling to get to the Argy #10, and Tuipulotu & Freeman get caught in the gaps between Argy 10, 14 and 15 without any line-speed to protect them.

The root cause is that the #13 does not not quite know what he should be doing, and uncertainty spreads like a virus.

Sure It looks like Freeman makes the mistake but you’re not seeing the underlying reason for it.

I think we have all seen Havili not quite make it at test level previously. I look at the side and I see a very deliberate selection of guys who play fast rugby. Not sure I’d put Havili in that category.

We won’t find out because Arg ain’t playing the Lions in another test this year. I think France has 50 players they could choose and not lose much from picking there top 30. NZ could, SA could, England could, not really sure around Ireland but Scotland and lower in rankings probably lose more below the top 25-30 than the top 5 do.

Only in a sense that Jacomb got more comfortable with the level of rugby I would say. He’s actually been taking over late from Shaun (in actual position) and hasn’t looked at home their.

His Taranaki partner has also looked all at sea if you ask me, Lennox ending up Fakatava’s backup this year only because I think they want to lure Jacomb down south, otherwise I know about as much of Taranaki to say their play structure is completely different and neither has seemed to thrive in their respect SR team when obviously they are still highly rated (as a result of their play for the Naki).

Yes please, I made mention of Love earlier in the season when the Canes were on a streak and he was at 10 - that is his natural position - he is an excellent distributor and his first thought is to play someone into space rather than attack himself. That’s a small difference but it is important as a flyhalf. Over their careers, Barrett and DMac have both been guilty of trying to force plays and will take it on themselves to create something if pressure is being applied. Love seems to have more of a constructive sense of building play.

The English media are carrying on about our state sides not having all Wallaby players available.

Yes this issue has blown up over the past few days. It was a problem in 2001 where some of blowouts were ridiculous.

Slightly less so in 2013 when two of the six provincial games were competitive and the Brums won.

Ultimately it’s about value for money. The four Aussie sides struggled towards the end of SRP with all their WBs available, if you pull out most of the WBs v the Lions it prob gets worse.

I think the Brums will be competitive again but the endgame may be that future tours of Australia may be combined with Argentina and/or the Pac Island nations.

Barrett came on and won both games against England earlier in the year so they are like for like - to me DMac has a better passing game and Barrett, a better kicking game (or at least uses it more as a flyhalf). They are both similar in attacking intent.
